Buff Bones

It is estimated that in the UK 50% of women and 20% of men over 50 will suffer a fracture. Due to our sedentary lifestyles the prevalence of Osteoporosis in the UK is rising.

Osteoporosis is the term given to a lowered in bone density and the resulting increased risk of fracture. Many of these fractures occur at the hip and wrist but also can occur in the spine. Current guidelines for those with Osteopenia or Osteoporosis is to avoid flexion of the spine (curving forwards) and many twisting and side bending movements. Therefore, many common Pilates exercises are not advised. Instead weight-bearing, resistance and impact exercise should be done in order to encourage the body to lay down more bone mass.

We are now proud to offer BUFF BONES® classes.

If you have been diagnosed with Osteopenia or Osteoporosis please contact us to discuss how we can help you safely exercise and perhaps join our bone health class designed specifically to help protect your body from fractures.
